NEW YORK – Just last week Oprah Winfrey said she was a victim of racism in handbag store in Switzerland and declared: “Racism it exists!”.
Her remarks went around the globe in no time.
But now the talk show queen is putting a spin on her remarks saying she’s sorry for her comments and wants to apologize.
Oprah’s apology statement:
“I am really sorry that it got blown up. I purposely did not mention the name of the store. I am sorry I said it was Switzerland. I was just referencing it as being in a place where people don’t expect that you would be able to be there!”
Already media is having a field day with Oprah Winfrey’s apology statement saying it is ‘fake and not from the heart’ and that ‘she offers a lame excuse as an apology’.
“Just because you normally would not be at expected to be at a certain place makes it right to treat you differently?” one Dutch channel questioned.
Reporter Alex de Vries from Telegraaf.nl offers an interesting thought on Oprah’s original racist claim, wondering she felt more her ego brushed than she was being discriminated against:
“Oprah Winfrey, one of the biggest stars in the world didn’t get recognized. Could it be that Oprah just couldn’t understand that?”.
In her original statement Oprah Winfrey did say that “apparently they don’t have the Oprah Winfrey show in Switzerland.”
