Clinical Depression: More Than Simply The Blues  [Valid RSS feed]

Occasionally people get the blues. There is usually the a feeling of depression, anergia, your inability to tolerate noises, thought process that's extraordinarily slow, anxiety, shutting others out and desires to stay in your bed, but in spite of these he or she still continues with the normal routine even if everyone is aware of the irritability of the person. During this time period we are able to hear him / her point out "I'm depressed" however this would only go on for just a couple of days. Periods such as these would be the time when an individual can experience a down time which is a common problem. This is simply plainly experiencing a poor day but not clinical depression.

Clinical depression lasts for a couple weeks or even more with conditions like sleeping in excess of ten hrs daily or less than four hours, thoughts of worthlessness or shame, irritability, sudden mood changes, weight-loss, changes in appetite and recurring ideas of suicide or dying. These symptoms must be existing day to day in 2 weeks which usually affects her or his social actions and interactions. Those who are at risk for this disorder are usually those who have low self esteem, has fear of failure, unsuccessful relationships, money worries, re-entry to organizations including school or work. During these times stress levels will probably be high, without an outlet and appropriate support system the situation may be dangerous. Constant supervising and mental guidance is a great help.

They are saying hormone variations in people who have disorders in their endocrine system and individuals that have lacking neurotransmitters like serotonin and norepinephrine are also vulnerable to clinical depression. Individuals who have increased Hypothyroid Stimulating Hormone is suffering from Hyperthyroidism. Individuals who have this are usually irritable, sensitive to heat and noise and prone to depressive disorders unless given medications so as to manage the activity of the hypothyroid thereby, depression is also handled.

Serotonin which is a precursor of tryptophan is responsible for sleep, state of mind and appetite. That is why most milk drinkers are usually jolly individuals due to the fact tryptophan exists inside milk. Norepinephrine in contrast is both a hormone as well as a neurotransmitter. It usually is called the stress hormone. When the individual is in stress the brain produces Norephinephrine. Both Serotonin and Norepinephrine are used to deal with mood ailments. People who lack these neurotransmitters may suffer from clinical depression. An extremely sensitive mind-set which could lead to a loss of a loved one.
