In this difficult time of cut backs and job losses it is sometimes difficult to walk around with a smile but the modern age has dawned and given us teeth whitening products and services that will enhance our smile and make us feel good about ourselves again.
Another reason why people do not smile as often and as openly as they should and could is because the teeth have discoloured and stained over the years and this has resulted in a massive lack of self confidence and self esteem.
Like anything prevention is better than cure and many problems and issues with the teeth could be avoided if better dental care and health was undertaken. Many people especially in the UK do not bother to see their dentist until there is a problem and regular appointments are not something many people undertake.
There is good news though is you have a darkening smile and that is teeth whitening. This is not a new thing but what we have today is many more products and services available to remove the staining on the teeth so here we look at some of those options in detail.
Toothpastes and mouthwashes
Many of the leading brands claim to whiten the teeth but because staining gets deep in to the teeth it is very difficult to remove with a paste. Some of the gritty type tooth pastes like arm and hammer or pearl drops work well as they are more abrasive and will lift off the staining on the surface of the teeth but again will not whiten them successfully. Mouth washes are also claiming to whiten and again this in reality is just a refreshing of the teeth not a deep whitening effect with proper tooth whitening.
Teeth whitening trays (home kit version)
These work quite well if you have lighter staining as they typically will come with carbamide peroxide and this type of gel will not get so deep in the enamel to really deep whiten them. This will be ideal for anyone who suffers high levels of sensitivity. Worn for around one hour at a time the teeth whitening will get gradually whiter.
Teeth whitening strips (Crest and others)
These are like tape with a peroxide gel which is applied within the strip and sits on the surface of the teeth for around thirty to sixty minutes at a time. Like the trays they will work to a certain level of staining and are one of the cheapest ways to whiten the teeth.
Bleaching trays (Dentists version)
These are some specially made trays to fit the teeth and you are to sleep in these for fourteen consecutive nights. These are a strong and powerful way of whitening the teeth but the results are gradual so do not expect to use the trays once and the teeth will be white as they do not work like that.
Laser or Zoom whitening
This is where a gel is placed is placed on the front surface of the teeth and with the blue light the gel is oxidized with the energy created from the light unit and this in turn removes the staining and whitens the teeth.
