David and Goliath are well known characters of bible stories. This is the story between two great characters and tells how David managed to win Goliath. The Philistines declared war against Israel. The Philistine warrior Goliath who was huge and nine feet tall challenged the Israelite to fight against him. He boasted that if anyone of the Israelite defeats him, the philistines would become their servants else Israelite should serve philistines.
David is the most important character in this story; he is the hero of the Israelite. David was a normal shepherd boy lived in fields taking care of lambs and sheep. His father name is Jesse and he is the youngest son in his family. David was sturdy and strong young man and possessed unique characteristics which were not found in people of that time. Though he does not hail from a majestic family, he cultivated great valor and bravery by fighting the wild animals like lion and bears which tried to prey on the lambs and sheep. Apart from being a shepherd, he also explored other skills like poetry and music.
During war between Philistines and Israelites, David was asked to see the king with his harp.. King Saul was ill and was keen to listen to David harping. David used to play the harp for kings who are ill and unhappy; his harping soothed and comforted the sad kings. Even though King Saul recovered from illness, he was afraid to confront the mighty Goliath.
The whole Israelites army shivered when they heard the loud Goliath voice. Nobody was brave enough to face the Goliath Philistine. David visited the Israelites camp to hear about his brothers. When David heard the mocking and terrible voice of Goliath, he was surprised to see his warriors' incapability to fight. He then decided to fight with the giant Philistine. However King Saul was not very happy about the decision, he stopped David stating that he was too young for war. David courageously replied that the lord who saved him from lion and bear will be with him.
After the king acceptance, David went to face the giant with shepherd' sling, some staff and few stones. After seeing David, Goliath turned angry that the Israelites have sent a shepherd lad. He was furious to see the stones and slings and asked David whether he is a dog. David was not afraid of his words or massive structure; he put one of the stone inside the sling and with great skill he threw it in his forehead. Goliath fell on ground and David became the King of Israel. David and Goliath story tells us that we should not be afraid of giant problems in our life and with god anything is possible.
