The Chevrolet Tahoe is one of the two full size SUV from General Motors model line, the other is the GMC Yukon. The origins of the Tahoe can be traced to early 1990, when GM first released in two different sizes SUV on the market, the Chevy Blazer and GMC Jimmy. In 1992, the Jimmy was rebadged to become what is now known presently as the Yukon, it made the game very different in terms of car sales. Chevrolet waited until 1994 before they did the same to the Blazer. Chevrolet upgraded the Blazer into a four door, full size SUV and rebadged it as the Chevrolet Tahoe.
In the late 90’s, the increasing demand for a more comfortable sport utility vehicle forced General Motors to create luxury version of their current model SUVs. The luxury version of the Tahoe was known as the Tahoe LTZ. There are also extended wheelbase versions of both the Tahoe and the Yukon; these are the Suburban and the Denali.
As the 2010 model year entered, the Chevrolet Tahoe is recognized as being one of the most reliable SUVs in the market, and with the release of the Tahoe Hybrid version, it also became one of the most fuel efficient, able to get up to 22mpg.
In the large SUV market, the Tahoe is facing competition from the Ford Expedition, Toyota Sequoia, Nissan Armada in the gas powered division; the Mercedes GL Class, the BMW X6 Hybrid and GM s own Yukon Hybrid and the Escalade Hybrid amid the hybrid SUVs.
In terms of design, the Tahoe takes the design elements of traditional SUVs, and then updates them to suit more modern tastes. In 2007, GM engineers have been successful in providing the Chevy Tahoe a unique look that might is different from their other SUV models, like the Cadillac Escalade. Although, there are still many similarities between the Yukon and the Tahoe in terms of appearance, they are almost identical, that is until you look at them up front. The Tahoe is the double horizontal grilles divided in the middle by the Chevy emblem; this is the signature design element of Chevrolet.
The glass and sheet metal work in the Tahoe are also great. The Tahoe has very subtle flaring along the fenders, and only a very bare minimum amount of cutlines in the body, giving the Tahoe a very clean and sophisticated look. The hybrid version takes it a step higher by giving the truck a more aerodynamic design and reducing weight to improve fuel mileage.
The interior of the Chevrolet Tahoe is also very excellent. There is a wide trim on the dashboard that gives the illusion of additional space (it has a sleeker look when it is finished with metallic paint instead of the wood grain). It also has a wide center console that provides sufficient space for simply designed but well marked secondary controls and the extra LCD display for the hybrid version.
The working man’s interior perfectly suits the base model of the Tahoe, while in the LTZ version, the interior looks and feels like it was taken from a German made luxury sedan.
