Initially only fir trees were used as Christmas trees. It is said that once upon a time, St. Boniface of Germany cut down the tree of Thor to disprove the legitimacy of the Norse gods. However, a fir tree grew out of the root of the oak tree. He took it as a symbol of Christianity and said that, ‘Let Christ be the centre of your household’. Thus was born the tradition of bringing home a fir tree during Christmas.
