RIO DE JANEIRO – Pope Franciscus landed in Brazil where he was welcomed and greeted by thousands of believers.
It is the Pope’s first trip abroad since he was chosen head of the Roman Catholic church in March 2013.
Pope Franciscus is in Brazil to head the World Youth Days.
A formal welcome parade will be held on Thursday at the Copacabana Beach in Rio de Janeiro.
On Friday, Pope Franciscus will walk with other Catholics through the streets of Rio performing a ‘Stations of the Cross’ procession.
Sunday the Pope returns to the Vatican after conducting a ‘Farewell Mass’.
